The 10th World Water Forum officially commenced with the Balinese Water Purification Ceremony (Sagara Kerthi)held at Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on 18 May 2024.
The ceremony showcased Bali’s rich cultural heritage and deep respect for water as a source of life. Through traditional rituals, sacred dances, communal prayers, and the symbolic release of wildlife into nature, the event highlighted the Balinese philosophy of harmony between people, nature, and spirituality.
International delegates expressed their appreciation for the ceremony, recognizing its strong message of environmental stewardship and sustainable living. World Water Council President Loïc Fauchon praised the event as an extraordinary opening to the forum and highlighted Bali’s unique ability to combine local wisdom with global sustainability efforts.
As one of the key opening events of the World Water Forum, the ceremony reflected Indonesia’s commitment to water conservation and environmental resilience while welcoming thousands of participants from around the world to collaborate on sustainable water solutions.

He also believes that the 10th World Water Forum in Bali will be the most successful world water forum and a diplomatic triumph for Indonesia.
“Since its inception 30 years ago (establishment of World Water Council /WWC), this (organization) is the most professional, most efficient I have ever seen,” said Loic Fauchon.

The 10th World Water Forum brought together global leaders, policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to advance dialogue and action on water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
