Preserving Nature’s Harmony, Releasing Hundreds of Baby Turtles

DENPASAR – The Serangan community, together with PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID), celebrated Tumpek Kandang with prayers and a turtle release ceremony along the shoreline of Kura Kura Bali on 12 July.

The ceremony honored animals and their role in maintaining harmony between humans and nature. Following traditional prayers, hundreds of baby turtles were released into the ocean, symbolizing gratitude and a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.

For local youth, the event carried a deeper meaning. “If these hatchlings return one day, it means we have taken good care of their home,” said Ni Kadek Noni Purnama Dewi, a member of Serangan’s youth community.

The turtle release reflects BTID’s ongoing support for conservation efforts led by the Turtle Conservation and Education Center (TCEC) in Serangan. Since 2022, more than 11,000 hatchlings have been released into the wild, while educational programs have helped raise awareness among thousands of students, visitors, and volunteers. BTID also supports broader environmental initiatives, including animal health programs and ecosystem conservation across the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone.

According to BTID Head of Communications, Zakki Hakim, Tumpek Kandang serves as a reminder that development and nature must progress hand in hand.

“Tumpek Kandang reflects how Serangan, nature, and people care for one another. At Kura Kura Bali, this principle guides our commitment to creating a place where humans, animals, and the environment can thrive together,” he said.
